Title: Girl, Stolen

Author: April Henry

Genre: YA, Contemporary, Thriller

Synopsis: Cheyenne Wilder is a blind, sixteen year old girl. One day, she is in her stepmother's car while her stepmother is shopping and the key is still inside the car. A boy named Griffin finds the car and decides to steal it, accidentally taking Cheyenne along with him.

Mi opinión: I liked how this book featured a strong female protagonist who has a disability. I was happy to see that Cheyenne Wilder was an intelligent, resourceful girl. She liked to be independent and used her enhanced senses to her advantage.

I also appreciate the amount of research that April Henry put into this book. The author definitely tried her best to put herself into a blind person's shoes. There was a part in this book that struck me. Cheyenne mentioned how she missed reading books. It made me realise how much we take reading for granted and how such a 'simple' thing such as reading is actually quite important and we often don't think about losing that ability.

However, there are always some weak points in a novel. For example when you look at Griffin, the car thief, he seemed too much of a nice guy and it made the book somewhat predictable.

It seems a little bit ridiculous when I have already praised it, but a lot of the research in this book was unnecessary, having nothing to do with the plot.

The ending was also somewhat disappointing. I expected something a little better.

As for the content, there is mild swearing (but very little), some innuendos and some mild violence.

Recommendation: I would recommend this story for people in their early teenage years (13-15). people who don't read often and also for people who are interested in learning about the lives of blind people.

Rating: *** - Three stars out of five

  2. Ooh, this sounds so interesting! I've never read about a blind person before, but I read about a deaf protag and it was amazing. I never really think about people our age having those kinds of disabilities.

  3. Ooh, I'd been looking at this one too, so thanks for the review! Weak endings are irritating, but this still sounds interesting enough that I might give it a go.

Keep it all clean, man. Well, if you really wanna curse, use minor swear words. And I mean the minorest of minor ones.

"Or what?" you ask in indignation.

"Or else."
