Mini Reseñas: The Grisha Trilogy

February 03, 2017

I'm back with the mini reviews. This time, I shall be reviewing a series. Surprisingly, There are no spoilers! Woo!

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1) by Leigh Bardugo

source

          Genre: Fantasy, YA, Adventure

This book was definitely a nice introduction to Fantasy for me. I liked the Russian setting and the world in this one.

I found the characters pretty decent, I could relate to Alina at times with her finding it hard to fit in with the Grisha and her being a loner.

The Darkling was a rather fascinating villain.

A ginormous 👎 for the love triangle. For me, both suitors were unqualified.

Recommendation: 13 and above

Siege and Storm (The Grisha #2)

source
The second book was definitely more action packed. However, this one took me a long time to finish and that made me a little mad. I even skimmed. I am not a skimmer.

A new character is introduced: Sturmhond. A man who claims to be a 'privateer' instead of a pirate, he's fearless and can easily betray people for money. Is he who he seems to be?

"The Darkling will hunt you for the rest of your days."
"Then you and I will have something in common, won't we? Besides, I like to have powerful enemies. Make me feel important."
We see a different side to Alina, her greed for power and her struggle with good and evil.

Personally, I liked the Darkling less in this book. He was obviously evil and manipulative and his advances toward Alina never failed to confuse me.

Once again, I will complain about the romance. It sucked. I felt that I should have liked Mal in this book but I couldn't.

Recommendation: 13 and above

Ruin and Rising (The Grisha #3)

Intermission:

First things first. Genya is back, people!

She watched the others move up the steps, then said, "Na razrusha'ya. E'ya razrushost." I am not ruined. I am ruination.
My brows rose. "Remind me to stay on your good side."
"Darling," she said, turning one scarred cheek to me, then the other, "I don't have a good side any more." He tone was merry, but I heard sadness there too.
Tolya and Tamar brilliant as always, Tolya being brave and noble while Tamar was sassy and fierce. And can we give a round of applause for David? He was his smart and brilliant self. Also, I don't even hate Zoya anymore. She was so wonderfully savage.

All in all, a very explosive book.

Recommendation: 15 and above

    1. Have you read Six of Crows yet? I read this first because everyone's raging about SoC so I thought I would appreciate this more if I read this first xD

  3. This a trilogy that I've seen on blogs for years but never actually picked up. There's a lot of Love/Hate out there. And I'm on the fence about the covers. At a glance they look ugly but when I really look, I find I love the detail, colours and font. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but that's what I've always done and I'm nearly always right about it.

    1. Haha, really? I guess that's true. If I were to judge on covers alone, I wouldn't pick the book up. Yeah sometimes a good cover can say a lot about a book but I was disappointed once and now, Goodreads over covers! xD

Keep it all clean, man. Well, if you really wanna curse, use minor swear words. And I mean the minorest of minor ones.

"Or what?" you ask in indignation.

"Or else."
