Mini Reseñas: UKYA for the win!

October 22, 2017

I have returned.

Sunny Side Up (Geek Girl 4.5) - Holly Smale

source

Intermission: I actually wanted to review the rest of the series in order but lately I thought, forget this. I'll most likely be reviewing the rest eventually anyway. And obviously don't read this review if you haven't read the others before this in the series and are planning to read this book unless you love spoilers.

Blurb: Harriet Manners knows a lot about the romantic City of Lights.

She knows that Paris has over a thousand bakeries but only one STOP sign.

She knows that haute couture originated there in 1858 and means 'highs sewing.'

She knows that more people visit France every year than anywhere else.

But being there isn't so great when you keep maybe spotting your ex-boyfriend everywhere. Or when the bright lights of the fashion elite are beaming straight at you.

Is Paris enough to make Harriet completely lose her head?

This time, Harriet finds herself a modelling job at Paris Fashion Week and is loaded with facts about France. She is also very anxious when she finds herself there because she's afraid of spotting Nick, after having broken up with him officially in the last book.

Fortunately, this time she continually communicates with her fashion-expert best friend Nat but still manages to mess up at least once!

Summer's Dream (Chocolate Box Girls #3) - Cathy Cassidy

source

Blurb: Summer has always dreamed of dancing, and when a place at a ballet school comes up she wants it so badly it hurts.

Middle school ends and the holidays begin, but, unlike her sister's, Summer has no time for lazy days and sunny beach parties. The audition becomes her obsession, and things start spiralling out of control...

The more Summer tries to find perfection, the more lost she becomes. Can a boy who wants more than friendship help her realise that dreams come in all shapes and sizes?

There is such a big difference between reading a book like this in your early teens and your late teens. Dang, dang, dang.

Of course at the beginning, Summer is composed and in control of her life.

Things get a lot worse when stress, an eating disorder and sadness plague her mind. Summer also battles with double standards and deciding on who to trust.

Radio Silence - Alice Oseman

                                                                           source

Blurb: Frances is a study machine with one goal. Nothing will stand in her way; not friends, not a guilty secret- not even the person she is on the inside. Then Frances meets Aled, and for the first time she's unafraid to be herself.

So when the fragile trust between them is broken, Frances is caught between who she was and who she longs to be. Now Frances knows that she has to confront her past. To confess why Carys disappeared...

I thought this companion book was going to be worse than Solitaire because it didn't draw me in as quickly. I was pleasantly surprised.

I found Frances and her mum's relationship quite fascinating.

"You're an idiot," said Mum, when I relayed to her the entire situation on Wednesday. "Not an unintelligent idiot, but a sort of naive idiot who manages to fall into a difficult situation and then can't get out of it because she's too awkward."
"You just described my life."

Also, this book is a non-romance if you've never heard of this book.

  2. I LOVED RADIO SILENCE IT WAS SO RELATABLE AND JUST AMAZING OMG. Far better than Solitaire, although that was good too. (Interesting fact: I finished it the same day I found out I didn't get into Cambridge (which I'm actually happy about now) and that was pretty great)
I read a whole lot of Cathy Cassidy when I was 10, but now I think I wouldn't relate/enjoy it so much.

Well, I'm glad you worked things out!

That's understandable. I'm mainly catching up because I kind of missed the series xD

Keep it all clean, man. Well, if you really wanna curse, use minor swear words. And I mean the minorest of minor ones.

"Or what?" you ask in indignation.

"Or else."
