Ways In Which Blogging Has Changed Me

June 21, 2018

Number 1 Reason: I'm now wayy richer

Okay, if you've been here for a while, you'd know that that is a bunch of horseradish. Yes, horseradish because horseradish is rubbish.

Okay, enough with the nonsense. One of the real changes includes:

1. I Am Now More Discerning

It's easier for me to spot out somewhat subtle messages that authors may put into their novels (though it's harder for me when it comes to classics and literary fiction and even poetry, gosh darn it!) but I do find it easier when it's in a digital form like YouTube videos and Korean dramas.

Books can be influential. There's no such thing as a book "just being a book" unless it was literally written rubbishly with no serious intent at all. However, I've never read one of those before...

2. I Can Critique Books Now... (yay)

Can you believe that before the summer of 2016, I didn't use to be critical of books I read? It's not like I make critical analysis' of the books I currently read but now I actually have an opinion of all the books I read!

I used to not want to criticise what an author wrote.

Yet I used to tell my younger brother that Harry Potter was better because it had bigger words and was apparently better written xD

Ugh, I thought JK Rowling's writing style was the best in the world until I took a peek inside a Harry Potter book and realised that I have read better writing.

...kinda awkward. I think that a lot of people this year are realising that author's aren't as perfect as we imagined them to be ;)

3. I Am Getting Closer To Finding Out My Reading Tastes

I'm not gonna lie here, YA Contemporary still dominates my TBR. And I'm not the fastest reader so I have quite a bit to catch up on.

At least I get recommendations from a bunch of Bloggers/BookTubers I follow. I now pick up books from the library that I would usually ignore.

I have yet to look into the Adult section yet... *gulps*

4. I'm Better At... Using The Internet?

Okay, so I'm not the best with CSS and HTML and all that jazz. I still use free Templates that are suitable for Blogger and that I always change even though I'd like to know what it's like to make my own.

However, I know how to put stuff into the menu on top. I can't create a whole drop down menu, though.

I also understand Photoshop a lot more. I don't use Photoshop, though. I stick with Gimp.

And when I first started, I didn't give a care about graphics and stuff but now I'm trying to find a style of graphic that suits this blog.

Working on your blog takes a lot of effort but it pays off eventually.

5. I Now Have Less Excuse For Procrastination

With the blogging community, came my discovery for Bullet Journalling (which I could be better at but I still do it) and I also have posts that have a list of things I want to achieve. Looking back on such things can light a spark of motivation that can enable me to complete a task I have been putting off.

6. I'm More Aware of Stuff Like Crediting

By this I mean that I don't just copy and paste random photos anymore... I used to link back to where I got certain book cover images from but I don't have time for that so I just take photos of books I got from the library.

And I get my images from free image sites like Unsplash.

7. I Am More Certain That I Need To Publish My Stories

I see a bunch of indie authors getting their books out there (though I have yet to read one *cries* and I can't wait to bring something out. I know, I know I don't have a manuscript that I want published written but I believe they will be shown to the world eventually.

I'm honestly not confident in my writing yet because I feel that I have yet to find my true writing voice, you know?

8. I Have More Friends/Acquaintances

Turns out I have more things in common than I originally thought. However, in real life *coughs* let's not talk about that at all...

Thanks to everyone who is my friend/acquaintance. I'm a bit all over the place nowadays but I hope to get my act together sooner or later.

And I plan on making more, of course.

  1. I think it's awesome that you've learned to be more discerning about what you're reading and how to use the internet! The adult section is just scary, okay? (Actually I think the YA section is scary as well, but that aside...)
I still have much to learn. I haven't figured out what it's okay to use and how to cite things and everything, but I love using GIFs. So I should probably figure that out? Yeah...
And publish your stories! Yes! Authors are humans too and everyone starts somewhere.
Great post! It's good to see that blogging has helped you in meaningful ways. Even if you're not rich. :)

Citing stuff sucks :( But I know it's important.

  5. I've gotten a lot better at critiquing books too since I started blogging! And making friends in the community and all that wonderful jazz. :D

And designing a blog is SO DIFFICULT! Oh my goodness, the days when I thought I could just pick a theme and slap it onto the internet or just grab any photo and use it. There are so many things to consider, but when you find the stuff you like, it's definitely worth it. :)

Don't worry; I haven't looked in the adult section yet either. :p

    1. YESS TO THE FIRST PARAGRAPH. Okay, I still have to work on it but STILL.

For real. I just want to get a sustainable job and get someone to professionally do it xD

Haha. It's good to know that I'm not alone :P

Keep it all clean, man. Well, if you really wanna curse, use minor swear words. And I mean the minorest of minor ones.

"Or what?" you ask in indignation.

"Or else."
